I am an advanced practice nurse with a combined background as a nurse practitioner and clinical specialist focused on psychiatric and mental health care. Additionally, I hold a master’s degree in social work and possess an advanced practice license. This extensive educational foundation enables me to integrate the biological, spiritual, and psycho-social aspects of the human experience in my practice area, allowing me to provide comprehensive mental health services.
In my role as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I bring considerable expertise in therapies for individuals, couples, families, and groups, and I am trained in divorce and family mediation. My specialized areas include adolescent counseling, treatment of anxiety, assertiveness training, brief psychotherapy, chemical dependency treatment, child and parent counseling, crisis intervention, depression management, as well as treatment for dissociative disorders, eating disorders, family counseling, individual counseling, marriage counseling, phobias, panic attacks, PTSD, sexual abuse, and stress management. Furthermore, I am an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina College of Social Work and College of Nursing, where I oversee the clinical supervision of both social work students and psychiatric care nurse practitioners.
In 2001, I established my own practice with one staff member, an office administrator, and we have experienced consistent growth since then. My personal aspirations align closely with my professional goals, which emphasize excellence in every aspect of my practice. I am deeply committed to reflecting God in all facets of my life by enhancing my understanding of Him and adhering faithfully to His teachings.

Hi! Thanks for checking us out. We have a warm, caring, and professional center, and I am proud to be associated with everyone here, most of whom have completed part of their clinical training here. I am the psychologist of the group, having seen clients for forty-one years and providing mental health services for thirty-three years. There’s not much I haven’t encountered in this field. I’ve learned a lot and aim to bring that wealth of experience and training to assist people who are psychologically wounded or navigating challenging circumstances. Some of my key written material includes: He Wins, She Wins (Thomas Nelson); Barnabas Ministry - a training and equipping program (www.barnabasministryinternational.com); and The Effects of Chronic Pain on the Marital Relationship. I am the founder and director of multiple programs over the years, including the multi-disciplinary Pain Management Program at Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, my private practice, and several counseling services that include licensed social workers and professionals providing psychiatric care. First and foremost, I am a Christian who has been blessed to be trained in the highest levels of both secular psychology and Christian counseling (University of S.C.; Georgia State University, The Psychological Studies Institute). Additionally, I have post-doctoral training and diplomate status in psychopharmacology (International College of Prescribing Psychologists, PPR) and was previously a Diplomate in Pain Management. I taught counseling courses at Reformed Seminary, Orlando, and at Georgia State University, Atlanta. Beyond my professional life, I am also a husband, grandfather, (inactive) elder in the PCA church, mentor, consultant, golfer (hacker), boater, and traveler. I strive to integrate all of my training and life experiences into the counseling experience, employing diverse and eclectic methods to help others. I love working with people and assisting them in overcoming their psychological battles to get back on the path of becoming the best individuals that God created them to be.

I am a nurse practitioner who has recently joined Barnabas Behavioral Healthcare to assist with the management of psychotropic medications for patients with both acute and chronic mental health conditions. Our team, including experienced licensed social workers, is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services and psychiatric care to those in need.
Before becoming part of the Barnabas team, I thrived in the emergency department and intensive care unit as a registered nurse. After earning my master's in nursing, I focused on caring for cardiac patients as a family nurse practitioner. My experience in these roles has highlighted the significant needs of the mental health population, and I am passionate about delivering excellence in care for these patients.
I have received extensive training and involvement in the behavioral health field, which includes my baccalaureate degree in Psychology, along with my nursing education and practical experiences. As a nurse practitioner, I have specific training in diagnosing and treating behavioral health conditions, as well as prescribing psychopharmacology. Throughout my clinical experiences in the family nurse practitioner program at MUW, I examined, diagnosed, treated, and prescribed appropriate medications for patients with disorders such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I also provide my patients with guidance on non-pharmacologic management options for depression and anxiety.

My counseling style emphasizes one’s strengths and assists clients in making positive and practical changes. Much of my mental health services focus on areas such as anxiety and depression management, grief, chronic illness, women's and singles' issues, life and career transitions, pre-marital counseling, and relationship difficulties. I am dedicated to encouraging those in full-time ministry, fostering spiritual growth, and addressing parenting concerns, including living with a special needs child and adoption.
Having grown up in Kentucky and moved to South Carolina in 1992, I bring personal insights to my work. My husband has been a pastor for the last 30 years, which allows me to draw from my life's work as both a Christian and a licensed social worker.
I provide therapy for individuals and couples, leveraging my expertise in psychiatric care. I also have experience working with adults and caregivers of those with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, and I have facilitated support groups for each of these populations.
I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Kentucky. I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Life can be challenging, and I consider it a privilege to walk this journey with you.
I offer an integrative approach to therapy, utilizing evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, IFS, and EMDR. For couples work, I incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method to help clients cultivate stronger, more connected relationships.

Allison Shipman
I graduated with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina in 2007. Since January 2003, I have been fortunate to be part of the Barnabas family, taking on various roles, including initially as part of the office staff and currently as the practice manager and a licensed counselor. As one of the dedicated licensed social workers in our team, I am passionate about providing mental health services that help individuals, couples, and families achieve their goals through a holistic counseling approach. This includes facilitating personal, social, mental, and physical growth. I utilize evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Adlerian Psychology, and Solution Focused Therapy, and I also emphasize the importance of psychiatric care when necessary. I look forward to supporting you on your journey to becoming your best self.

My desire is to help those wounded and hurt by life to become whole again through comprehensive mental health services. This holistic approach addresses the mental and physical well-being, as well as the social and spiritual health, of each individual. My strengths lie in my passion to empower clients and my 50+ years of life experience. After transitioning to a counseling career later in life, following my extensive background in business and my most important roles as a wife and mother, I firmly believe it is never too late to learn, change, and grow.
I focus on assisting women in small groups and individually, and I also offer couples, family, and parenting counseling. I utilize various evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Solution Focused Therapy, while integrating existential theory and Christian counseling. For those seeking support, I also collaborate with licensed social workers to provide the best psychiatric care available.
Every person, regardless of age, has inherent value and a unique story of struggle to share. I will walk alongside you or your child to help restore purpose, joy, and hope in life. This calling is God's lifework for me. Will you allow me to help you find the purpose and joy in your life?

Life does not have to hurt. If you are suffering from the pain of addiction, complex trauma, depression, or relationship problems, licensed social workers can provide the mental health services you need. My goal is to help you enjoy life again and become the person you were destined to be, with you remaining in control during treatment.
Family support is crucial in our lives. Unfortunately, when that support falters, it can lead to hurt, fear, and confusion that affect every aspect of our well-being. By understanding this complex dynamic, you can empower yourself to break through to the happiness you truly seek and deserve.
Throughout my career, I have worked with Dual Diagnosis clients, helping many to comprehend the self-fueling cycle of mental illness and substance abuse. Engaging in psychiatric care is the first step to breaking that cycle and regaining control over your life.

Hi! My name is Jon! I grew up overseas in West Africa and have been a resident of the South since 2010. I moved to South Carolina in 2014 and married my wife in 2015. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Counseling Psychology from Toccoa Falls College, a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling from Columbia International University, and I am credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina. I am also well-acquainted with licensed social workers who complement the mental health services provided in our community. I love Liverpool FC soccer (football), enjoy reading science fiction, and cherish spending time having fun with friends and family. My counseling and therapy focus on areas such as anxiety, depression, addiction and substance abuse recovery, grief, transitional stressors, and boundaries in relationships, to name a few. I work with both individuals and couples, utilizing various evidence-based practices in my counseling, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques with an Adlerian perspective. With a collaborative approach, I often coordinate with mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive psychiatric care for my clients. I believe growth and healing happen when we develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and how we connect with ourselves, others, and God. I know that life can be very challenging, as we all experience hardships and loss; each of our stories is worth telling. I am privileged to have the opportunity to get to know you, serve you, and walk with you on your growth and healing journey!

Hello! I’m Sarah Turner, a licensed independent social worker with clinical practice dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services to adolescents and adults. My goal is to help you move from merely "surviving" to truly living. I utilize a warm, practical, goal-focused, and strengths-based approach that fosters a safe space where you can be heard without judgment. Together, we will build effective coping tools and make steady progress toward the life you aspire to achieve.
As an Army veteran who served as a Chaplain, I bring a calm, grounded presence, along with a profound respect for the burdens people carry, whether it’s stress, trauma, grief, relationship strain, anxiety, depression, or life transitions.
